Fighting Food Insecurity in a Pandemic

June 10, 2020

Food insecurity is a battle that many people fight around the world every day. However, in times like these, the battle gets a little harder to fight. COVID-19 has greatly impacted areas of food production. Although there have been claims that this pandemic may trigger a “looming food crisis”, there are organizations like Feeding Children Everywhere (doing business as U.S. Hunger) that create innovative solutions to these issues every day.

Food banks are the most common solution to fight food insecurity. Since the peak of the coronavirus outbreak, food banks across America have seen up to a 50% increase in families that need their help. However, food banks turned out to be a temporary solution.

With social distancing guidelines requiring us to stay six feet away from others, many food banks and other organizations helping to fight hunger have shut their doors. Food banks and helping hand kitchens are resources that many rely on in order to feed their families. The closure of these emergency food assistance locations has left many searching for their next meal.

America’s Virtual Food Bank

We found our own solution to this problem—delivery. Full Cart has served as America’s Virtual Food Bank for quite some time. However, it is in times like these that we truly see its impact. With the support of our Hunger Heroes, we are able to continue delivering groceries and meals to families in the quickest and safest way possible. Fighting to help the many families that can no longer access food banks due to the pandemic.

We all play a part in fighting for food security. The support from our Hunger Heroes has helped us continue to safely ship meals to families in need. The COVID-19 crisis is not over; there is still so much work left to do. Together, we can make an impact to help those affected during this time.
